What is Halal Meetups?
Halal Meetups is a UK community platform that helps Muslims find their people through halal-friendly social groups and in-person events. Brothers' and sisters' spaces are kept completely separate, every event is alcohol-free, and the focus is on regular real-world meetups — coffee, hikes, dinners, sports — rather than another scrollable feed. Founded in Birmingham in 2026; expanding across the UK.
Is Halal Meetups free?
Yes — browsing groups, joining most groups, and attending most events is free. Some groups charge a small subscription for member-only perks (priority booking, free or discounted tickets to paid events). Each event and group page shows its price up front, so there are never hidden charges.
How are brothers' and sisters' spaces kept separate?
Halal Meetups runs two completely separate silos. When you sign up you pick brothers or sisters; from then on you only see groups, events, members, photos, and discussions for your own silo. Brothers can't see sisters' events and vice versa — enforced at the database level, not just the UI. Organisers and platform staff who need cross-silo access are the only exception.
Do you have to be Muslim to join?
Halal Meetups is built for Muslims and assumes a baseline of shared values (no alcohol, no mixed-gender socials, halal food at meals). You don't have to prove you're Muslim to sign up, but the spaces are designed for people who want a halal environment. If that's not what you're looking for, the platform won't be a great fit.
Are events alcohol-free?
Every event on Halal Meetups is alcohol-free by default — that's a non-negotiable. Venues serving alcohol can still host events (most halal-friendly restaurants in the UK do), but no alcohol is consumed or served as part of the event itself. Organisers confirm this when listing.
Which cities is Halal Meetups in?
We launched in Birmingham and are expanding across the UK. Birmingham is fully live with active groups and events. Other UK cities (London, Manchester, Leicester, Leeds, Bradford, Sheffield, Luton) are coming soon — sign up to be notified when your city goes live.
How do I start a group?
Any signed-in member can start a group from the navigation menu. Pick a category, give it a name, write a short description, and you're live. You can run open groups (anyone can join), approval-based groups (you review join requests), or invite-only groups. Organisers can run events under their group, manage members, and post discussions.
What does a typical event feel like?
Most events are relaxed, in-person, and small enough that you'll actually meet people — coffee meetups, dinners, hikes, sports sessions, gaming nights. No awkward icebreakers, no forced networking. You book a spot, show up, and the organiser facilitates. The mix skews towards Muslims in their 20s and 30s but every age range shows up.
Is my profile public?
Your profile is visible to other members in your silo by default. You can lock it down to only the people you've attended events with, or hide it entirely from the member directory, in your settings. Your name and avatar still show on attendee lists for events you've registered for so organisers know who's coming.
How do you make money?
Some groups charge a small monthly subscription for member-only perks — that's the main revenue model. Halal Meetups takes a percentage of subscription revenue and a small fee on paid event tickets. Free groups and free events have no fees attached. The platform is built to be sustainable without ads or selling member data.
What's the difference between an event and a proposed event?
Events are confirmed: date set, venue booked, you can register. Proposed events are an organiser testing the waters — they post the idea, people mark themselves as interested, and once enough interest is shown the organiser launches the actual event. It lets organisers gauge demand before committing to a venue.
