Terms of Service
Last updated: 6 April 2026
1. About these terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Halal Meetups platform, operated under the trading name Halal Meetups (“we”, “us”, “our”). We are not a registered company.
By creating an account or using any part of the platform, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must not use the platform.
These Terms are a legally binding agreement between you and Halal Meetups. They are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
2. Who can use the platform
To create an account and use the platform, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old. We verify your age at sign-up using your date of birth. Providing a false date of birth is a breach of these Terms.
- Have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract.
- Not have had an account previously terminated for a violation of these Terms.
Halal Meetups is a community platform designed for Muslim individuals. When you join, you select a gender community (brothers or sisters) that determines which groups, events, and members you can see and interact with. This selection reflects the gender-segregated nature of the community and cannot be changed after registration. If you have joined the wrong community in error, contact us at hello@halalmeetups.com.
We do not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, disability, or any other characteristic. The gender-community structure exists to reflect the values of the community the platform serves.
3. Your account
Accuracy
You must provide accurate and complete information when registering and keep it up to date. Creating an account with false details — including impersonating another person — is a breach of these Terms and may result in immediate termination.
One account per person
You may only hold one account. Creating multiple accounts — for example, to circumvent a suspension — is not permitted.
Account security
You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity that takes place under your account. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at hello@halalmeetups.com. We are not liable for loss or damage arising from unauthorised access to your account that results from your failure to keep your credentials secure.
Account deletion
You can delete your account at any time from Settings › Danger Zone. See our Privacy Policy for details of what happens to your data on deletion.
4. The service
Halal Meetups provides an online platform for members of the UK Muslim community to discover and participate in local groups and events. Core features — including joining groups, registering for events, posting in group discussions, and leaving reviews — require an active paid subscription.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the platform at any time. Where possible, we will give reasonable notice of significant changes. We are not liable to you or to any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the service.
We do not guarantee that the platform will be available at all times, error-free, or that any particular feature will remain available indefinitely.
5. Community standards
Halal Meetups exists to provide a safe, respectful, and welcoming space for the Muslim community. You agree not to use the platform to:
- Harass, bully, threaten, or abuse any other user
- Post content that is hateful, discriminatory, or incites hatred on the basis of religion, race, gender, disability, or any other characteristic
- Share sexually explicit, violent, or otherwise inappropriate content
- Impersonate another person or organisation, or misrepresent your identity or affiliation
- Spam group members with unsolicited commercial messages or promotions
- Post false or misleading information about yourself, your group, or an event
- Collect, harvest, or scrape personal data about other users
- Use the platform for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law or regulation
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the platform or another user's account
- Interfere with the proper working of the platform
We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these standards and to suspend or terminate accounts of users who breach them, without notice if the violation is serious.
Users can report content or behaviour that violates these standards using the report function available throughout the platform. All reports are reviewed by our moderation team.
6. Your content
You retain ownership of any content you post on the platform — discussions, reviews, photos, profile information, and other contributions (“User Content”).
By posting User Content, you grant Halal Meetups a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to store, display, and distribute that content to other users as part of operating the platform. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, subject to any retention periods described in our Privacy Policy.
You are solely responsible for the content you post. You must not post content that:
- Infringes the intellectual property, privacy, or other rights of any third party
- Contains personal data about other people without their consent
- Violates any applicable law
- Breaches Section 5 (Community standards)
We may remove User Content that violates these Terms without notice. We are not required to monitor User Content, but we reserve the right to do so.
7. Groups and organiser responsibilities
Creating groups
Members may apply to create a group. All group creation requests are reviewed and approved by our team before the group is made available. We may decline a request without giving reasons.
Organiser responsibilities
If you are a group organiser, you take on additional responsibilities. You must:
- Provide accurate and complete information about your group and any events you create
- Ensure your events are appropriate for the community and compliant with these Terms
- Not use member data (including names, answers to join questions, or registration information) for any purpose other than managing your group and its events on the platform
- Not contact members outside the platform using information obtained through it, unless the member has explicitly consented to such contact
- Maintain basic safeguarding standards at in-person events and ensure events are held in suitable, accessible venues
The organiser role is a privilege and can be removed by us at any time for any breach of these responsibilities or our community standards.
Walk-in attendees
If you record attendance of walk-in guests at your events, you are responsible for informing those individuals that their details are being collected and stored. You must only collect information that is genuinely needed for the event.
Our rights as platform operator
We reserve the right to remove, hide, or disable any group or event that breaches these Terms, poses a risk to our community, or that we consider inappropriate for the platform, with or without notice.
8. Subscription and payment
What requires a subscription
Full participation on the platform — including joining groups, registering for events, posting in discussions, and leaving reviews — requires an active paid subscription.
Pricing
Our launch membership price is £7.99 per month for our first 100 subscribers, after which the price is £12.99 per month. Subscribers who joined at the launch price keep that rate for the lifetime of their subscription unless we give at least 30 days' notice of a change. We may change our pricing with at least 30 days' notice; for existing subscribers, any price change will apply from the start of your next billing cycle after notice.
Payment processing
Payments are processed by Stripe, a regulated payment service provider. Your payment card details are handled directly by Stripe and are not stored on our servers. By subscribing, you also agree to Stripe's terms.
Billing and renewal
Your subscription renews automatically each month on the same date. You will be charged the applicable fee at the start of each billing period. It is your responsibility to ensure your payment details are kept up to date.
Cancellation
You can cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you will retain access to subscription features until then. We do not offer refunds for unused portions of a billing period.
Failed payments
If a payment fails, we will notify you and attempt to collect payment again. If payment remains unsuccessful, your account will enter a grace period after which subscription features will be suspended until payment is resolved. Your account and data are not deleted due to a payment failure.
Complimentary access
We may, at our discretion, grant complimentary access to certain accounts. Complimentary access can be withdrawn at any time.
9. Suspension and termination
By us
We may suspend or terminate your account if you:
- Breach these Terms or our community standards
- Provide false registration information
- Engage in conduct that poses a risk to the safety of other users
- Have previously been banned and created a new account
For serious or repeated violations, we may terminate your account immediately and without notice. For lesser violations, we may issue a warning, restrict your access, or suspend your account temporarily.
Appeals
If you believe your account has been suspended or terminated in error, you may appeal by emailing hello@halalmeetups.com within 14 days of the action. We will review the matter and respond within a reasonable time. Our decision on appeal is final.
By you
You may terminate these Terms at any time by deleting your account. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will continue to apply, including Section 6 (Your content), Section 10 (Our liability), and Section 11 (Governing law).
10. Our liability
We are not responsible for other users' conduct. We do not vet group organisers, members, or the content they post beyond our moderation processes. We are not responsible for the accuracy of event listings, the quality of events, or anything that happens at an event organised through the platform.
We provide the platform as available. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access to the platform. We provide the service on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude all implied warranties.
Limitation of liability. Subject to the paragraph below, our total liability to you in connection with these Terms, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty, or otherwise, will not exceed the greater of: (a) £100, or (b) the total subscription fees you have paid to us in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for: death or personal injury caused by our negligence; fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under English law.
Consumer rights. Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer under UK law, including the Consumer Rights Act 2015. If you are a UK consumer, you have legal rights in relation to services that are not carried out with reasonable care and skill, and these rights are not affected by these Terms.
11. Intellectual property
All content on the platform that we create — including the design, layout, text, graphics, logos, and software — is owned by Halal Meetups or our licensors and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from this content without our prior written permission.
User Content remains the property of the person who posted it, subject to the licence granted in Section 6.
12. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal data. By using the platform, you confirm that you have read and understood it.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Where we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by a prominent notice on the platform at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the platform after the effective date of the updated Terms constitutes your acceptance of them.
If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the platform and may delete your account before the changes take effect.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising from or in connection with these Terms will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, unless you are a consumer resident in another part of the United Kingdom, in which case the mandatory rules of that jurisdiction may apply.
We are committed to resolving complaints fairly. If you have a concern, please contact us first and we will do our best to resolve it informally. If we cannot resolve a dispute, you may have the right to use an approved alternative dispute resolution (ADR) scheme.
